Atheists identified as America’s most distrusted minority, according to new U of M study
That's the University of Minnesota. Associate professor of sociology at the University of Minnesota, Penny Edgell, completed a survey of 2,000 people that found some surprising results about atheists.
"...Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups in 'sharing their vision of American society.' Atheists are also the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry."
I would say these results are suprising because an opposition to atheism isn't nearly as noticable, at least to me, as the opposition towars homosexuality or minorities. Then again, it can be said that the fundamentalist religious movments across the country are inherently anti-atheist, or at least very, very pro-religion.
I won't put on my blogger hat for now, but it's something to think about.
