Yes!

I'm so the only person who cares, but after a long wait, Sony is dropping a new Minidisc player unit. It's supposed to be all "prosumer", with crazy recording features. It looks pretty sweet and can play my ever important minidiscs; those mixes are fresher than fresh. Those minidiscs are also documents of my musical tastes for the past 3 years.



I'm definitely getting that this summer.

The Promise

Perhaps I've said it before, or this is the first time, but I love Wu Xia films, such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero. From the director of Farewell My Concubine, comes The Promise, which looks like it will be straight up Wu Xia action. I didn't like House of Flying Daggers, but this film seems more promising. Comes out May 5th.

Officially Uncool?

As a blogger, once in a while, I have to tackle the current issues. One so called "hot" thing currently is, of course, social networking sites. Certain sites, like the ever infamous myspace, have come under the attention of the news media. Probably because a teenager was lured to her death by a man on myspace and sexual predators LOVE myspace. Oh and perhaps the lack of real social interaction might have something to do with it. This news coverage begs the question; Now that everyone, even non-hip adults, know about myspace/social networking is it/are they officially uncool? I'm going to say yes. Myspace will probably turn into the next Friendster. Or, if we go way back, the next pogs or beanie babies. You know those both got uncool once the news got on them. I might just be the Nostradamus of trends, we'll have to wait and see.

Duper Sessions

It appears Sondre Lerche has a new record soon to be released Stateside. It called Duper Sessions; it's named after a studio in Bergen, Norway. It's totally a jazz record too. Apparently there's some covers thrown in too. I'm not that suprised that he made a jazz record. It all sounds pretty decent, you know those Norwegians do jazz like no one else. Hit up his website for samples.

I'm sure you're familiar with a group that featured Jack White, Brendan Benson and the drummer and bassist from The Greenhornes. They've got themselves a music video on the net now. The song is pretty decent, the groove in the verse is nice. The song itself doesn't sound too fresh though, kind of early 90s alternative. I do enjoy the vocal performance, but I kind of wish of a bit more of Brendan Benson's pop sensibility was present, but either way worth a listen.

Unfortunately, they aren't allowed the right to adopt, but most everything else is there. Congratulations, Czech gays. All Czechs benefit though.

Which One?

I decided I should weigh in on a long running debate. Which is better Starbucks or Caribou? Yesterday, I decided to use a Free Drink coupon I got in the mail from Caribou. I got some Zebra Mocha, and it was cleary evident which establishment made better drinks. Starbucks, by far, has better tasting drinks. The caribou coffee just isn't as good. It kind of has a chalky finish too, which is just whack. I don't care if the kids like hanging there, Caribou drinks are punkass. I definately recommend the Tazo Chai Creme Frappucino, totally delicious.

Nanotech helps blind hamsters see

It seems scientists have used nano technology, "a branch of science involving the manipulation of atoms and molecules" to restore the sight to a blind hampster.

"Scientists mimicked the effect of a traumatic brain injury by severing the optical nerve tract in hamsters, causing the animals to lose vision.

After injecting the hamsters with a solution containing nanoparticles, the nerves re-grew and sight returned."

"In order to try to restore quality of life to those individuals you can try to reconnect some disconnected parts to try to give some functionality in the brain for communication and other things like that. And that's where we think that this might be very useful," he added."

Interesting new science. Of course it's still in the hampster stage, but obviously promising.

Yeah Spring Break '06, off to a good start. It's quite a bit better than my previous one, but the key is that I have it. I can finally watch Human League videos on Youtube again.
