So last week's episode of "Flight of the Conchords" has a lot of cameos by "David Bowie" through different periods of Bowie. This might be funny without knowledge of David Bowie, but it's definitely extra hilarious if you know how D. Bo do.

Geek Explosion

It's been somewhat of a Batman overload for me lately. I've read three different Batman comic series, and I've been really excited about the viral campaign for the movie so far. Well, it's not over just yet. Probably coming from Comic-Con, a teaser trailer for the "The Dark Knight" has just hit the internet. It might only be sound, but man I am excited. Heath Ledger sounds pretty effing crazy.

Feeling

After a few days delay, I got myself a new t-shirt in the mail. It's hand silk-screened on a American Apparel t-shirt and I get what the AA fuss is all about. The shirt feels super nice, fits really well, and even smells pretty. The shirt is a much brighter color than I'm used to wearing, but I like it.

Man-Eating Badgers

Marie Antoinette d'Autriche

Somewhat over a year, I believe, after the film came out, I managed to watch "Marie Antoinette". It is abundantly beautiful. The costumes, locations, people, food, furniture, music, and cinematography are all extremely beautiful. The look and feel, even with the setting is somewhat reminiscent of previous Sofia Coppola works - you get that close, almost home movie type of intimacy at times. Sofia Coppola does a good job of making the 18th Century feel like it could have happened yesterday; the characters don't seem larger than life or beyond what is tangible, which is a nice feeling. On the topic of today, the not exclusively, but prominently New Wave soundtrack fits fairly well. The inclusion of "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow, is the only song that doesn't work too well. On the topic of the story it self - the film seems to flitter between royal formality and revealing closeness constantly, without ever really getting too involved with either. It feels as though something is missing, as though the film could have used a more definite climax. I would say it is overall a good film, something around 3 1/2 out of 5. Worth watching for the cinematography and production values alone, but with a story that doesn't quite climax but is mostly satisfying.

Nothing But Mental Acumen

The peak condition athletes of the Rock, Paper, Scissors world have moved beyond battles for who gets shotgun, to the world stage. With the help of Bud Light, the USARPS League held its first battle of champions. Not only is it a showcase of man at his best, but it's also insanely hilarious. There's a good chance it's just a huge ad campaign for Bud Light, but as long as the extraordinary Hercules(es?) of Hands are battling for RPS supremacy the world seems a little brighter.

Oh man, anyone remember those Real Men of Genius Bud Light commercials? An example being Mr. Hair Gel over Geller. Those commercials were brilliant.

The Future of an Illusion

I just finished reading "The Future of an Illusion" by Sigmund Freud. It does get a bit too scholarly in points, but it is overall a though provoking read.

It's an analysis of religion through the psycho-analytic perspective of Freud. It's interesting to see an analysis of religion on psycho-analytical grounds instead of on scientific or cultural grounds. For a fairly decent summary of important concepts check out the wikipedia entry.
