If I had to pick one, while I was alive. I'd like to know people understood my

The News: Is It Whack?

Now I take some respectable effort in being informed. So, I read the news, sometimes watch it. Now written news, for the most part I think is pretty good. My main sources being the BBC and The Economist.
Television however, as a certain online journal, is a cesspool. I don't really hate Livejournal that much, it does still hold a grand potential for evil. Seriously watch the news, and then ask yourself, how much of this is just plain news, and how much is pundits just guessing about the outcome of something when they hardly have a clue? Mostly pundits just flapping on. The reason is, people don't really want the news, they want to hear people that agree with them, that's why the conservative propaganda machine known as Fox News exists. Yes, I'm going as far as to call it propaganda, they've been caught saying fake news, that's supposed to be a joke, not passed off as legitimate.
I'd say, and I think most would agree, people should read straight news, and then think whatever they want. John Stewart has said it, and so have many others, but make up your own mind, pundits are for bitches. Pundits just talk BS, or spit out party slogans.
CNN headline news isn't bad, BBC international news isn't bad, The Economist is nice(my favourite), BBC online is good as well.
Is this just me talking about how I hate pundits and Fox news, and pretty much American news in general? Yes, but that's what blogs are for.

Jamming Out to Ballads and More

Lately, well since yesterday I've been in the mood for long ballads. Maybe it's because i've been hanging out with so many women lately, even though I doubt they listen to long ballads very often.

Ohh man, so in another of my Japanese music escapades I said, hmm let me listen to this group Guruguru Eigakan, which apparently means "Revolving Theater" Ohh it made me hoot, it's so indie cred, in the fact that the recording quality sucks, there's no real sense of melody, bits of surfer music mixed in, a singer with no talent but he makes it work somehow, guitar is way louder then the bass, the band doesn't really play very tightly, but well enough, ohh and weird background screaming. Shall I post the indie cred stuff, well no, but i'll post this song where it's just the group jamming, acoustic guitar, tamborine, and a bass drum, or someone hitting something that makes a thud noise. Ohh man tamborine, you whacky toyheads. Might this be of no interest you? Perhaps, but I believe I'll post something later, if you really don't care. I don't really like this band, but they look neat, and it's not bad. More just funny.

Alright so this reminded me of indie cred music, ohh wait I did post it.

Thoughts of the moment

Odds are this will divert from my mission plan, but no one reads this anyway. I held out for 15 posts at least.

Thoughts =
1. I think people should say when they're not interested in what you're saying. At least then I'd know it, instead of wandering, ohh they just don't care do they. OMG!!!! They don't, I should stop talking, but I'm not sure, ohh sick thought cycle, you evil bastard.
2. My bass playing has kind of stopped getting any better, I should fix up my amp, and practice. Perhaps a band, but I need a job, I would hardly have the time. Good luck finding goods musicians, who like good music too, or is it whom? Could be whom.
3. Will I be with someone by the time prom comes around? I can hope.
4. Is it worth it to tell someone you like them, even if you think it's not mutual? Or should you just shut up about it? I suppose I should try both.
5. I'm not one to write any type of poetry, or lyrics, but I'm thoroughly intrigued by music involving some kind of sexiness, a subtle kind. I think I'll give that a shot, and I get the feelings it will differ from most other writings of people my age. Not the thoughts of course. Perhaps I'm wrong though, exuse me if my assumption is wrong, please correct me if it is.
6. I think I should try to be more worldy, read more, listen to more music. Could just be brought on by my friends being quite different from me in that respect, they read and listen to different music that I, but it's intriguing to me as well. Also provides more for me to speak of.
7. There's more but I don't believe I could articulate them. If you're reading this remember, if you would have asked me, I would have told you all of this. Perhaps even more, depending on who you are.

Pretty Sweet Minidisc Player

So I was really bored and decided I would look at Minidisc players, because I'm in need of a new one. I had my eye set on a $280 one. Pretty sweet, built in Eq, and acoustic sound settings, really high transfer speed, somewhere around 30hrs of battery life, all pretty nice.
Then I run across a batch of new players that are going to come out around April, and I see this sexy minx that is the Sony MZRH10.

Look at that screen, it's just seamless with the rest of the player. Pretty effing slick, maybe not as good of a screen as an Ipod, but definitely looks cooler. Me being an audiophile, I've just got to have the higher sound quality that minidiscs offer. Well I don't know if I'll be able to hold out until April, but man that is cool.
Does anybody actually read this? There is a part to post comments if you do, I would appreciate some criticism. I can always do better.

Ann Coulter Is a Stupid Bitch

So I'm doing a psychology project where I took a survey asking people who they would kill. I personally would pick Ann Coulter. Now I'm sure I could research and find a library worth of ignorance, lies, and stupidity from this woman, but for now I have a video clip.

Nobuo Uematsu

If you've ever played a Final Fantasy game you might know who Nobuo Uematsu is, or at least you're familiar with his music. Nobuo Uematsu has been the composer for the Final Fantasy series since the original Final Fantasy was released in 1987.
His scoring for the series has been appreciated by fans for years, but recently Uematsu has recieved musical acclaim from the music scene outside of video games. For example he was named one of the "Innovators" in Time Magazine's "Time 100: The Next Wave - Music" feature. He has toured with his music and an orchestra in Japan extensively and has played dates in America as well, recently playing in Chicago.
While previously Nobuo composed over 40 songs for each game, currently his inclusion on Final Fantasy soundtracks has deminished. On the upcoming Final Fantasy 12 Nobuo only composed one piece.
Recently however Nobuo left Square-Enix, the makers of the Final Fantasy series, to form his own studio called "Smile Please". No one knows whether or not he will still write for the Final Fantasy series.

Well onto the music, I prefer the piano renditions of his work, so that's what I'll put up.

Band Profile

Alright after a whole one day hiatus, I've returned and decided I'm going to do a band profile. The band for today is Deadman, yes I know the name sucks. As is my nature they are a Japanese group from Nagoya, which according to a map I just checked is about 200 miles Southwest from Tokyo. Whatever they moved to Tokyo. Most bands if they want to make it, move to Tokyo, it's like the Glasgow of Japan.
So things began in January 2001, With Mako(Vocals), Yukihino(Bass), Aie(Guitar), and Toki(Drums). Yukihino leaves and Takamasa steps in, in my opinion a better bassist.
Aie(guitarists) writes all the songs, and Mako(vocalists) writes all the lyrics.
While still being an indie group in Japan they seem to be gaining some popularity. Releasing a new single on March 3, I believe called "Saint's March" really rough translation, and doing a tour on the 5th with 11 stops.
They did release a single back in November which I bought, I seem to have lost it though. Either way it's called "Degree[d]s Centigrade", I don't know if that's Engrish or some type of pun, whatever, pretty good song in my opinion. Pretty much a pop rock song, upbeat but not a happy one. You might like it, you might not.
Here's the music video for "Degree[d]s Centigrade" as well. The video has some cheesy, trying to be creepy shots, but the band performance shots are cool. Plus I like the way the film was filtered, and the somewhat skewed framerate and the changes in focus. Pretty neat technically.

How to Make Some Fantastic Waffles

Alright, so as many know, I enjoy making waffles. One day I just said, there's no breakfast so let me make myself some waffles, and my life hasn't been the same since. Some might say, well Eggo waffles are pretty good. Eggo waffles are for bitches after you've made your own waffles.
Alright so get yourself a waffle iron, if you don't have one, well try pancakes. Not with this recipe though, you'll probably find a suitable recipe on your box of bisquick, or Jiffy Mix. Don't overstir your pancake batter though, that ruins them. A few lumps in there is just fine.

Recently discovered, Martha Stewarts website blocks hotlinking. AKA that recipe link doesn't work.
You'll need two bowls, wait 3 the 3rd for fluffing the egg whites, measuring cup, a wisk, a ladle, an electric hand mixer, and a rubber spatula. I also recommend a fork for removing your waffles from the iron. You can do it by hand, but a fork is safer.
Also if you've got problems separating the egg yolk from the white, use your hands. Let the white kind of slide through and trap that yolk. Works for me, but I suppose you'd have to see that to get it right.
Whatever follow Martha's recipe, it makes wonderful waffles, but eat them quickly or else they texture isn't quite the same.
Ohhh man, I've really run out of stuff to talk about. *sigh*
Hey maybe you can make these for someone tomorrow, how you'll get into their house early in the morning and not piss off their parents I don't know, but ehh work it out. Ohh make their parents waffles too, and some coffee, that will do it.

No I didn't write this, but ehh the song from which it originates is catchy, and it's in Japanese originally anyway, so it just sounds cheesy, you can't understand the cheesiness. I still like it. Hey I just realized this is appropriate for Valentine's day, so appreciate the happy lyrics, think about finding someone that will love you. I don't know about everyone else but I always appreciated a happy love song, it fills me with hope. Think about some good memories, dream up romantic scenarios, whistle along to a good melody. North Korea Talking Smack

As you should know North Korea has made it a goal of their's to acquire nuclear weapons and while it isn't known for sure, it's likely they have them. As you should also know George Bush and Condo didn't restrain themselves from calling North Korea "an outpost of tyranny" recently. While the situation with North Korea hasn't been the best over the past 4 years, safe to say calling them "an outpost of tyranny" doesn't help smooth things over. North Korea took offense to this as did other countries such as Iran and Syria. So North Korea has decided to suspend 6 party talks "indefinitely." I think it's probably because North Korea wants to tell us to suck it, you don't mess with a country that has nukes, and North Korea is quite aware of that. Now I don't think most people have heard the art which is North Korea talking smack, but man they are good at it. So to take a more comical view of the news, I'll post some of my favourite bits from North Korea's official statement. DPRK stands for Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

On a more serious note though, I hope this prompts the US to take a different angle towards North Korea. Any country building up it's nuclear arsenal isn't something we want.

Abbas and Sharon Declare a Truce

Well Mahmoud Abbas and Ariel Sharon met today in Egypt at a Summit also involving Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Jordan's King Abdullah. At these talks the two declared a truce. Israel will withdraw troops from Jericho and the West Bank and 900 Palestinian prisoners will be released first 500 then 400.
I've got to say I honestly thought peace in that region wouldn't happen, but I'm very excited about the agreements made between Abbas and Sharon. If Israel carries through with their promises, and the international plan for establishing a Palestinian state is completed, I believe a huge step would have been made in establishing stability in the Middle East. The US has also pledged $350 million to Palestine to help build up the country, establish schools and build infrastructure, such things, which could really boost the United States' view in the Middle East. I could talk about this for days, but I really just wanted to say this is wonderful news. I'm really happy that things at least seem to be going in the right direction. Creating peace in that region could have a very positive influence all around the world.

KCRW Performances

Alright so KCRW is a radio station in I believe south California. This guy Nic Harcourt hosts this show Morning Becomes Eclectic. He invites bands to come play on the show and he's gotten some cool groups. So I'll post a view links to videos of bands I thought were cool on his show. Every video is about 30-40 minutes long, with an interview in the middle.

First group is a band from Scotland called Dogs Die in Hot Cars. They are a upbeat pop group, compared to Talking Heads and XTC. Either way pretty catchy stuff, sometimes the lyrics are kind of stupid but not too shabby music.

Next group is a group of cats out of Mexico named Cafe Tacuba. I can't necessarily describe their sound, I suppose a dash of Radiohead is in there, but either way I think it's really good. They sing in Spanish which doesn't bother me, but some people might not dig that. I recommend starting at about 21 minutes in. The second 1/2 of the songs are the good ones starting with "Que Pasara" then "Eres" then probably the best song "Puntos Cardinales"

Movies that could be sweet

Alright, I usually check quicktime.com to see new movie trailers, and usually there's cool stuff, so I'll do a little coming attractions bit.

First film is called "Nobody Knows(Daremo Shiranai)" by Hirokazu Kore-eda. I've never heard of this director before, but apparently he's very good. This film is about a family with 4 children and a single mother. The mother decides to one day just leave so these kids have to make it by themselves. Apparently lots of the film is just improvized, the director said basic things and the actors had to work it out. All shot on digital film, it's supposed to be very natural, very honest. Awards are: Cannes Film Festival Official Selection, Toronto Film Festival Official Selection, Telluride Film Festival Official Selection, Best Actor Yagira Yuuya Cannes Film Festival.
Cleary this film has gotten lots of acclaim, it's seem very good to me.
Nobody Knows

Next is a new movie by Tim Burton, and no it's not Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It's a new claymation film in the style of every goth kid's favourite, A Nightmare Before Christmas. It's called "Corpse Bride". It seems pretty funny, i'd explain the story but it's all in the trailer which is here. Ohh yeah and Johnny Depp is in it and Helen Bonham Carter.

I think that's all I believe is worth posting. I'm sure I'll remember some other films later.

My Bass

Well, I really don't have much to write about so I'll do a post on my bass. I received it April 17, 2004 at around 10:30, safe to say I remember it quite well. I ordered it from the nice people at Ishibashi music store in Tokyo. The person with whom I made the transaction, was extremely friendly, makes me wonder why service isn't as good here. Either way, best service I've ever had. It was in Yokohama(south of Tokyo). It shipped to Tokyo, then two days later it was at my door, delivered by a really nice member of our postal service, which I'm a fan of, good job USPS.

The bass is a white Killer Beelze, from the Japanese guitar company named Killer(mmm hmm the company's name is Killer). The bass I got is one of the higher end basses, completely made my hand by one man in Tokyo, I don't recall his name, but his work is excellent.

It's a really cool looking bass(at least to me), and it sounds, and feels wonderful. I just look at it, and say mmm, that's one sexy bass. Well here's a picture from I believe the shop in Yokohama.

Alright so I said I might talk about the State of the Union address, well gotta say i missed a decent amount of it because of HW and a shower, I saw about 1/2 an hour though. Nothing special, mostly what you would expect. Nothing too offensive, nothing too conservative(from what i saw). I believe Bush is trying to come off as less harsh to polish up the image of his presidency. He even said earlier in the year that comments like "Bring it on!" were a bit much(he seems to have a knack for hindsight). Oh well, I'm waiting until 2006 when I can try and put people who represent me into office.

Political bit 2: A bill is currently in Ottawa(Canada's Capital) to legalize gay marriage through the whole of Canada, 8 of Canada's 13 providences already have legal gay marriage. The bill is currently at a cross roads, with 139 in support, 118 opposed, 49 undecided. A slight majority of Canadians also support the bill. If this passes I'll be happy that another country decides that every one of their citizens deserves the same rights.

Onto the cover story. I was checking out this CD review of this Japanese rock group called Nil, mostly rock n' roll/punk rock kind of stuff. Pretty solid band I'd say. They decided to make a CD of 80's covers. On this CD they put the magic which is "Come on Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners. The english may be a bit scewed but it still rocks. EDIT: Got the full song, it's good, his voice is so right. *Getting down with himself* It won't be around forever, get it ASAP, if you'd like to.

Nick Valensi Signature Guitar

In an effort to have a website and not be a journal, i've decided it's going to have stuff that catches my interest, so today it's Nick Valensi's signature guitar. As most of you probably know Nick Valensi is a guitarist for The Strokes. His guitar is basically an Epiphone Riviera which he put single coil pickups in, which leads to a brighter tone, and apparently one great sounding guitar. His new guitar is of course made my Epiphone, part of the Elitist series of Epiphone guitars, which means:

Still some good looking chaps though.

Tomorrow I might talk about the State of the Union Address, depending on the extent to which it pisses me off and how much of it I can tolerate. Anybody catch that democrat burn last year, where bush said "If we don't act then The Patriot Act will disolve" then all the Democrats started clapping, ohh man that one made me hoot. Not even The Daily Show had that one.
